Why you should watch this interview

Bob Walsh has a wealth of knowledge in that head of his.  He is passionate about helping young entrepreneurs and MicroISVs succeed and he is building internet applications and writing books to do it.

My favorite part about this interview was when he described the perfect startup team.  It includes a developer, community manager, and fund raiser.  I feel we have that killer trio here at Viralogy, so hopefully this means we’re going to be successful.

If you’re a young entrepreneur, then you need to reach out to Bob because he is more than willing to help you on your path to success.  Enjoy the interview!

Conversation Breakdown

What are the biggest mistakes bloggers make in trying to drive traffic to their blog?

You have to understand what’s the purpose of your blog.  If you want to be a profesional programmer, then your blogging goals are completely different than someone who is building a product online and trying to sell it with her blog.  Blogging can take a good 2-3 hours of every work day if you want to be successful at it.

Why do most startups fail?

The single biggest reason is being overwhelmed with the number of things that you need to do.  If you get to completion and build a product that has value for some people, then it becomes a question of finding more people like that.  It’s the bootrapping process that is extremely difficult.  A lot of entrepreneurs spend a lot of time researching, and don’t spend enough time implementing.

If you’re building an internet startup, is it important for one of the founders to be a CTO?

The core value of the company should be part of the founding team.  The ideal team is:

  1. The Developer
  2. The Community Manager
  3. The Fund Raiser

What is more important: The quality of the product or the marketing of the product?

“If you make crap on the internet and try to sell it, you will die.”

Great inteview, Jun! I did learn a lot from this Video.

It’s the first time I heard the term MicroISV today. I will definitely check out 47hats.com now(what a great name it is!)

Yes, the purpose of blog is very important. The implementing is more important than researching too. Totally agree what Bob said.
