This video interview is the reason why I love doing Awesome Bloggers so much.  I have chatted with Carla on the blogosphere before, but it was so much fun getting to speak with her face to face.  She’s got it all: smart, funny, nice smile, ambitious, pretty… yes, I can go on and on.  The point here is that she’s an awesome person and you should really take the time to meet her.

I love how she is going to be starting a video blog very soon.  I think it’s something that will catch on soon, and the people who are doing it now are ahead of the game.  Join me and Carla, start a video blog, and lets lead the revolution!

On a side note, it seems to me that everyone I’m interviewing is from the East Coast.  Where are all my West Coast people at!?!?  It is a lonely road over here without someone in SoCal to accompany me on my blogging adventures.

Conversation Breakdown:

2:12 - How did you start a group blog and what does Life Before Noon mean?

The blog started from some classroom discussions.  Carla and her classmates started Life Before Noon because she saw a lot of Gen Yers talk about the workforce and they decided to become a part of the conversation and step up for Gen Y.  Gen Y is stereotypically classified as lazy and waking up after noon, so Carla’s goal was to show how we do have life before noon.

3:42 - There are a lot of blogs social media and marketing, how do you plan on standing out?

Carla is interested in how social media is affecting culture and trends, and not just about the shiny new object that is Twitter or any other new web 2.0 site.

4:58 - One of my favorite posts was where you talked about how Gen Y Males are afraid of Gen Y Females.  What do you mean by that?

Intimidation Factor: Gen Y Males and Females

7:16 - Did you get any interesting comments on your blog?

There were A LOT of women that agreed with Carla’s post.  Not too many men commented; I guess they were just too intimidated  :P

9:17 - So if I guy was to approach you, how would he best do it?

I love how Carla was so open to answer my questions.  No pick up lines for her and no dating sites either.  It’s all about striking a genuine conversation and making her laugh  :)

11:28 - How are you balancing school, a job, and two blogs?

It’s all about being scheduled, managing your time, and having a hard work ethic.  If you know what you want, then you get a lot of personal fulfillment accomplishing your goals.

12:24 - What drives and motivates you?

Carla loves taking risks, and she truly wants to reach her potential personally and professionally.  Her drive is all self-motivated.

13:06 - Is there anything you’re afraid of?

Like anyone, Carla has an innate fear of failing.

14:15 - Gary Vaynerchuk wants to buy the New York Jets; what does Carla Blumenthal want to do?

Carla truly wants to live a life where she is happy to wake up everyday.

Awesome Interview!

I can agree that a modern, professional, Gen Y woman can be intimidating, but in a great way. Although I find people who base their lives off of superficial characters like the ones on Sex in the City aren’t so attractive, there’s nothing better than talking and building with a go-getter, be it a woman or man.

@Nisha- The feeling is mutual! Hopefully we can meet up before you leave the states. I’m planning on it :)
@Jun- Thanks for doing the interview! You better make your way to Boston soon…

@JR Moreau- I think there is a shift from our grandparents’ generation to ours that allow our early twenties to be this time of “finding ourselves.” For some reason, however, guys seem to be stuck in this time longer than women. From my observations (and the Newsweek article as well), many of my girlfriends are overly ambitious, while many of the guys I know don’t have the same professional goals. This will probably change as we get older and mature, but as of now, I think this idea of “guyland” exists- and is reinforced in our media. I agree- the best is when everyone is on the same playing field!

@Matthew- Thanks for your support :)
