Why you should watch this interview

I was really impressed with my interview with Dave Seah.  He reminds me a lot of Yu-kai in many ways.  For example, Dave has started the collective where he tries to connect two people that will unlock each others passions.  Yu-kai Chou started the FD Network while at UCLA which was meant to connect people for their personal and professional success.

Dave is passionate about passion.  He wants to see people reach their true potential.  Yu-kai’s goal is to make everyone around him successful.  Both are unique, selfless people that are happy when others are succeeding.

My favorite part of this interview is when I ask him what advice he would give to a 20 something.  The advice he gives is pretty much one of the best that I’ve heard so far.  Enjoy!

Conversation breakdown

Before starting the blog, did you have the same philosophy of productivity and transparency?

Dave used to work in the video game industry and developed a severe allergy to marketing.  He eventually left to start his own freelance company and decided to start a blog for marketing purposes and create an un-traditional website

How does your blog stand out from all of the other productivity blogs?

Most other blogs are very fact and tip focused.  Dave’s blog has long narratives and are about his personal life.  He talks about his insecurities, fears, and the methodologies that he uses to surpass them.

Do you have a system to your productivity?

Dave tries to be aware of what he is doing, and package it in such a way that he can repeat it and use it later on.  Dave’s blog functions as a repository of ideas and methods that he uses to live an effective life.

What are some common misconceptions that people have about productivity and simplicity?

Two things that are under emphasized are discipline and focus.  Productivity is 50% emotion because when you feel you’re being productive, then you think you are.

Tell me a bit about yourself outside of the blogging world

Dave loves to people watch.  He’s involved with local networking efforts. He’s trying to map all of the people he knows into different networks and connect people with the right people that will unlock their hidden potential.

What makes you super passionate and excited?

Dave is passionate about passion!!!

What advice would you give to your 20 year old self?

Find that one person who is your counterpart.  Not in terms of love, but in terms of life and business.  With that person, you can achieve what you’re both passionate about together.

I’ve been following David Seah’s blog for a few years having a similar sort of obsession for personal productivity. It’s always helpful to see and hear a person who you only know through there written blog.

Happily, David is the articulate fellow I imaged.

Many thanks for posting this interview.
