Girls in Tech Rock the Industry

Yu-kai and I were walking around the Web2Expo when I ran into Robyn and Lucia from Girls in Tech.  I absolutely love the site because they’re such a great place for girls in the tech industry to really stand out and find a support group through the community.  This tech world can be a “boy club,” and it makes me very happy to see an organization that encourages women in the tech industry to stand out and be heard.

Ladies, I would love to get your feedback on the following questions:

  1. In what ways do you feel that blogging and Twitter have changed the place of women in the business world?
  2. How has blogging changed your life?

On a side note, I just found out that Robyn is the wife of my good friend Todd Cohen.  You should definitely follow him on Twitter.

Conversation Breakdown:

0:16 - What are the goals for Girls in Tech?

The end goal for Girls in Tech is to bring awareness to the woman in the tech community and to give them a platform to stand out and feel supported.

1:27 - How has blogging changed your life?

Blogging has changed their lives because their opinions matter no matter what they say.  Blogging has provided them with a voice that reaches out much further than any previous communication tool.

2:39 - Being women in the blogosphere, how do you balance your personal life with your professional life

The ladies of Girls in Tech keep a strict division between their personal lives and their professional lives.  The blogosphere is a place where you must be very careful about what you’re putting up there for people to see.

3:49 - How do you think the world has changed for woman because we have blogs and twitter?

There is still a stigma in corporate America in terms of the kind of money women are able to make compared to men.  Robyn believes that social media will be the new industrial revolution where women will be able to overcome the barriers of sex in the work place.

4:57 - For 2009, what are the goals for Girls in Tech?

Girls in Tech University

“2009 will be the Year of the Woman!”

Man, I wish I was at Web 2.0. Those girls are neat and it’s nice to see their site - it is refreshing, as it really is a boys world.

In fact, I was just realizing the other day that almost all the tips at my site Daily Entrepreneur Tip were from guys - something I’m trying to change!
