June Lin founder of Givery.org - My 9 to 5 is my side job

Contact: junelin09 [at] gmail.com
Twitter: @JuneLin
Websites: http://www.junelin.com/
Career: Strategic Financial Analyst at Intel and founder of Givery.org
Passions: “The arts (this includes wearable art, music, paintings/sculpture), business strategy, and technology.  As far as causes go, education, human rights, and the environment.  I’m passionate about making the world a better, friendlier place to live in.”

I really like June’s name for some reason… I wonder why?

I really enjoyed this interview I did with June because of her bubbly, yet deceptive personality.  Sure, she seems nice and friendly, but I think underneath you’ll find a strong-willed business minded leader who has her career goals planned out.  She admits to it herself - she loves to plan out her entire day and nothing makes her happier than being productive.

I think this is a great type of personality for an entrepreneur; especially one that has a corporate job.  I feel that I was able to do both the corporate world and the startup life because I am disciplined as well.  I would work from 8am-6pm, come home, go to the gym, and go to work from 9pm-1am every night.  I would do this 5 days a week, and to be honest, I was starting to feel burnt out after 3 months.

June will try to live similar life.  I think she’s strong, but there is only so much the human body can take.  I do love that she said she would quit her corporate job if her startup does well!  You can do it June!

Conversation Breakdown

1:20 - Are you going to pursue the startup life while working in the corporate world?

June will work at Intel, doing a 9-5 to support her life.  “Shelter and food before you can move on to self-actualization.”

Givery.org is a platform that allows you to sync your credit card with the site, and give a small % of each purchase to your account.  As your account grows over time, you can then give your money to charity.

4:00 - Why did you decide to do a non-profit instead of a for profit startup?

June feels like she has neglected the “giving back” aspect of her life.  She wants to give back to society as much as she can now.

4:45 - If you never had to work another day in your life for money, what would you be doing?

June would love to be designing fashion, especially handbags and shoes.

5:42 - If Givery.org does well, would you leave your full-time job?

Yes!  She definitely would commit full-time to Givery if she is given the change

6:54 - Where does the motivation to do so many things come from?

From the very beginning, June wanted to get the most out of school.  So she double majored, paid her way through school, but missed out on studying abroad and partying hard.

I love how you have to plan out your entire day and be as productive as possible! I used to do a lot of that in school. But after being CEO of a company of more than 7 people, I realize most of my day is spent solving everyone’s sudden problems, so I couldn’t do it :)

But I want to be a productive artist too. I feel like I don’t need to be successful to be happy. I just want to devote my life to create a masterpiece where I spent a day where I can’t be more productive. So far I have not gotten close but hopefully I will get better and better!
