Career: Managing partner for Crossing Gaps LLC, an “idea factory”
Passions: “I’m passionate about ideas and stories. I like hearing ideas and tell stories. If I could wake up every day and listen to a great idea for a product, service, invention, or piece of creative work and help that person tell their story using the web — I’d be even happier than I am today. ”
Steve Spalding is genuinely one of the most intelligent people that I have met. Our good friend Violet introduced us a couple weeks back, and I was immediately impressed by the work he has been doing online.
If you’re a young entrepreneur, then this interview is a must watch for you. Steve gives some detailed info about how to succeed as a young entrepreneur, and gives some excellent advice about how to write quality content for your blog to maximize your traffic count.
Steve just recently published his book, All the Little Things, about how to position yourself to succeed when you launch your product. Viralogy is about to launch, so I’m definitely going to be reading the book to maximize our chances at succeeding! Definitely go out and read the book! Enjoy the vid.
Conversation Breakdown:
1:16 - What are some tips you can give to young entrepreneurs
Just keep building things. One of the hardest things for young entrepreneurs is that we constantly run into walls. We have to keep failing and keep trying to succeed.
2:16 - Is it better to analyze and then take action or take action as fast as possible and analyze data along the way
Steve suggest to read Blink by Malcolm Gladwell and Failing Often by Bradfell.
The only way you can survive as an entrepreneur is to fail often. All great entrepreneurs are able to look at themselves through objective eyes.
4:19 - What are the first steps an entrepreneur with an idea should take to make it a realization
Steve says you have to embrace your constraints and most importantly, you have to tell a compelling story.
6:21 - Are you currently making money with your blog?
Yup. Steve is currently working with Technorati media and Forbes business network.
6:38 - How were you able to get Technorati and Forbes onto your site?
Steve is currently doing CPM banner advertisement on his blog
7:21 - So it’s as simple as that? Anyone with a blog can contact Technorati or Forbes?
No, it’s not as easy as that. You need to be getting at least 100,00 pageviews a month to work with these large rep agencies.
9:19 - Give of some tips about how to write an effective blog post that builds quality content and brings traffic
There are two types of content:
- Regular everyday content (the great majority of blog posts)
- Showcase content (needs to be long, good, and have amazing content)
11:43 - How do you market your posts?
Focus on quality content first and foremost. The ability for a post to go viral depends on the day published, the time published, and the overall mood of your readers. Content can be very unpredictable.
13:06 - Tell us about your new book
Steve’s goal is to give you the knowledge to successfully launch a product.
You can get the book here: http://atltbook.com/

Another great interview. I really connected with the content as I have an idea for a business I’d like to launch, but am still working through the details. I found the discussion on advertising on the blog and writing great content to be particularly useful.
I have to admit that I was unfamiliar with your blog, but I’m heading to subscribe now and am eagerly anticipating your new content. Great interview choice, Jun.
